Working alongside Cultivate CIC we'll be turning a neglected growing space at the Elmwood Youth and Community Centre in Stockton on Tees into a productive, food growing space.
The garden is currently home to a couple of fruit trees and a small pond, which has silted up, could be reinstated to provide beneficial wildlife. There are also plans to look at a greenhouse/hydroponic system.
Barefoot Solutions will be working alongside Cultivate CIC and in partnership with the WEA to deliver a hands-on horticulture course, which will guide learners through the process of designing and creating a growing space, whilst practically applying their skills to make the garden productive. Clearance work will take place in Autumn 2018, with the programme of development beginning in February 2019.
**UPDATE!**
March saw the start of our food growing course, running in partnership with the WEA and helping volunteers learn how to create and develop the site.
We started with seed sowing, moving onto design, all using permaculture and no-dig principles.
